Vinny Iyer has always had a desire to learn a variety of different subjects, and has always had a passion for justice; both of these traits led him to the practice of law.

Vinny went to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where he received his Bachelor of Arts. While at Creighton, Vinny majored in music performance (classical guitar) and theory, co-majored in political science, and completed the pre-medical program in 4 years.FWI Legal web 8204 e1581017137771

After Creighton, Vinny attended the University of Nebraska–Omaha to study music composition where he learned counterpoint, orchestration, and advanced music theory. During this time, Vinny also played with his band while teaching music theory and guitar lessons.

Eventually, Vinny’s passion lead him to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate in 2011. Additionally, Vinny completed the litigation skills program of concentrated study with a criminal emphasis. While enrolled in law school, Vinny Iyer served as a clerk with Atwood, Holsten, Brown, Deaver and Spier Law Firm. In this role, he primarily handled personal injury and workers’ compensation cases, which would later become his focus at Falgien Warr & Iyer, P.C. Upon graduating from law school, he worked as a senior analyst contract attorney, auditing foreclosure and mortgage procedures for a multinational bank. He then represented clients through his own contract defense firm and at Clear Creek Consulting, wherein he helped individuals and businesses resolve tax liabilities with Federal and State taxing authorities. Subsequently, Vinny was hired as an attorney at The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya, LLC where he focused on personal injury cases.

Additionally, Vinny is on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Ancova Empowerment Project, which is an organization designed to help young people who have faced behavioral, economic, or legal challenges to have positive and constructive experiences while gaining life skills and learning how to overcome obstacles to their success, mostly through the creation of art. http://www.ancovaep.org/ Vinny’s duties are not regulated to only sitting on the board. As a musician, he also plays benefit shows with the faculty to raise money for the organization.

In his off time, Vinny likes to play guitar in his band, stay involved with current events, keep up with the newest shows, learn Krav Maga, hit the gym, hike, travel, and play with his dog Bandit.

Vinny Iyer is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Nebraska. He is currently involved with the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and the Colorado Bar Association.

Q & A to Vinny Iyer:

1. What made you want to become a lawyer?

FWI Legal web 7824 e1581612344594

After graduating from college, I decided to play in a band instead of going to medical school. However, after about 4-5 years of playing, I realized that I did not understand the rules to this game of life. How do you buy a house? What is a contract? What are my rights if I’m pulled over by the police? What are my civil rights? What do I do if I’m injured in a car accident or at work? I realized how little I knew and figured the best place to learn these rules would be law school. Combined with my love of learning a variety of topics and subjects, law school seemed like the natural path. It turns out I was right! I really enjoyed learning about the rules to the game and a variety of different subjects.

Vinny Iyer 108943 web 12. Why did you choose to specialize in personal injury and workers’ compensation?

I have practiced in many areas of law, from mortgage and foreclosure compliance, to tax to commercial contracts litigation. However, personal injury and workers’ compensation law is by far my favorite area of practice because I can see the difference I make in peoples’ lives, and because I can advocate for the people against large insurance corporations to ensure they receive proper compensation for losses they sustained through no fault of their own. I see the impact on peoples’ lives from injuries, and I see the pain, stress, and financial loss that people undergo after an injury. I wanted to use my skills to help people through this time and make sure they are compensated for all they lost. There is no greater satisfaction than helping people through these difficult times and getting them the money they deserve. You can see the difference you make from the initial consultation to the final case disbursement. Seeing that difference provides me with a great sense of satisfaction and solidifies for me that I have made the right career choice.

3. What is your favorite part about being an attorney?

Well, outside of the satisfaction I feel when I successfully resolve a case, I love negotiating and having to think on my feet. Personal injury is a fast paced and exciting career with an infinite amount of variety between cases. There is always something new or interesting in every case and I enjoy piecing everything together, like a puzzle. Not only do I feel fulfilled from helping others, but I also feel intellectually stimulated with the case work.

4. What are your other interests?

Outside of work I like to do a variety of things. I like to sit back and relax, binge watch shows on Netflix or hang out with friends and my dog Bandit. I also like to stay active and routinely attend Krav Maga self-defense classes, boxing fitness classes, the gym, and I like to go hiking. I like to keep my musical chops up to date by playing guitar in a cover band. Finally, I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to travel the country and the world. I’ve been to India, Spain, Europe, South East Asia and many other places. Places on my bucket list include Japan, Iceland (to see the Northern Lights), and Africa.
